Bon Iver

Bon Iver’s début album, “For Emma, Forever Ago” has just been released by Jagjaguwar Records. These nine breathtaking tracks were recorded almost entirely by one man, Justin Vernon, sequestered in a cabin in Northwestern Wisconsin.

When the members of his band dissolved the group to form a new project without him, Vernon escaped to the woods. He spent the next three months living a simple life of Thoreauian labor. Alone in the woods, he recorded “For Emma, Forever Ago” which is now receiving widespread critical acclaim.

“…the chilling, rusty grandeur of For Emma will stop you in your snow tracks…”

–Village Voice

“8.1/10…It’s as if he’s trying to inhabit the in-between spaces separating musical expression and private rumination, exposing his regrets without relinquishing them. His emotional exorcism proves even more intense for being so tentative.”

-Pitchfork Media

“irresistible”

–New York Times

“He’s emerged with a bunch of songs that effectively communicate the fragility of respectability and constraint against an indifferent natural world.”
